The Guest Room

My Real Guest Room is also known as Toni's Room, after my daughter, who is now a nurse, wife, and mother of four little girls--two blondes, a brunette, and a redhead--of her own. Located at the front of the house, its corner windows allowed her to observe the arrival of "gentlemen callers" during her teenage years.

When Toni lived in this room, it was bower, a hideaway, and a gallery. Pageant trophies and modeling shots; ball gowns and Reboks...all seemed to foreshadow a life of glamour and sophistication. Yet, beneath the poised exterior, remained a little girl eager to be ten and qualify for babysitting class. That child, more than any other person, informed the woman--and the mother--she would become.

On the country side, the room is now simply furnished with a brass bed and dark oak armoire--quite different from the ruffled white provincial suite it once enjoyed. Today it offers "bed and breakfast" to friends and family, either visiting from out-of-town or just needing a quiet retreat.

My Virtual Guest Room is purple, Toni's favorite color. It will be a place for visitors to tell me and others a bit about themselves.
