My Real Home is in Austin, a
mid-sized, progressive city on the eastern edge of the Central Texas
Hill Country. It is a quaint, two-story
limestone cottage with a steep tin roof modeled after the "Sunday
houses" built in nearby Fredericksburg by German farmers
over a hundred years ago. Nestled on a wooded hillsidecul-de-sac
overlooking the Barton
Creek greenbelt, it a quiet bit of country near the heart of downtown
Austin.
Within the house, each floor has a "city" and a "country" side, so that one
has a sense of changing moods as he moves from one quadrant to another. Tall
windows, French doors, indoor plants, and covered decks blur the distinction
between indoors and out, so that one feels a part of the changing seasons.
My Virtual Home is also organized by living areas: inside/outside;
upstairs /down. Each space--real and virtual--contributes something vital to my
life, and I would like to share some of these things with others. I am by nature
a private person. Attempts to express my inner world through singing, dancing,
acting, and material art have usually failed due to gutwrenching stage fright.
Perhaps here, on the Internet, I have found a safe place to bloom.
